The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that
job openings fell to 7.19 million in March, below the
expected 7.5 Ml., indicating labor demand weakness.
US Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index
dropped sharply to 86.0 in April from 93.9,
its lowest reading since April 2020.
China decided to waive its recently
imposed 125% tariff on US ethane imports,
easing some pressure in energy markets.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick presented
White House plans to support US automakers;
Tariff concessions some imported auto parts.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent delivered remarks
in the White House saying there was some advance
in Idia and Japan trade negotiations, but
failed to clarify "talks" between the US and Beijing.
Odds of a Fed rate cut in June rose to 56.8%
after weaker-than-expected labor and Sentiment data
increased concerns about economic momentum.
