- The rupee staged a comeback, rebounding from record lows to close around 88.07, as the RBI stepped in and remained successful in protecting 88.80 levels. (Such a move last seen on 10-11th Feb: 87.95 to 86.63 levels)
- India’s merchandise trade deficit hit an 11-month high of $32.15 bln in September as imports surged to $68.53 billion, outpacing exports of $36.38 bln. The widening deficit follows U.S. tariff hikes on Indian goods like textiles, shrimp, and gems. Despite this, goods exports to the U.S. rose over 13% in the first half of the fiscal year.
- French PM Sébastien Lecornu suspended the controversial pension reform until at least after the 2027 presidential elections. This decision is expected to give the cabinet some leeway to survive a no-confidence vote due later this week, which has given some support to the Euro, although the issue of approving a budget remains open.
- US President Donald Trump said that he saw the US is in a trade war with China, even as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent proposed a longer pause on high tariffs on Chinese goods to resolve a conflict over critical minerals.
